A mid-20th century Venetian chandelier with a gilt metal frame and its original glass central column intact. The frame is richly dressed with all original antique crystal, presented in a range of traditional Venetian cuts and forms.
The crystal includes a mix of long faceted drops, multi-sided pendants and irregularly cut elements, in clear, smoky and soft blush tones. These variations are typical of Venetian production and give the chandelier depth and visual interest without overwhelming the form.
Crystal beaded strands are used throughout the chandelier and are a recognised characteristic of Venetian glass chandeliers. These bead chains are draped across the arms and central structure in the traditional manner and support the attribution to Venetian manufacture.
Glass bobeches sit beneath candle-style light fittings, while the scrolling gilt metal arms provide structure and balance. The chandelier remains visually light despite its density of crystal.
A solid and decorative example of a Venetian crystal chandelier from the mid-20th century, suitable for a dining room, entrance hall or bedroom.
