A superb late-19th-century French bronze gasolier featuring four original frosted flame shades and a highly detailed neoclassical frame. The chandelier retains its original gas taps, confirming it was designed to operate as a gasolier before later being converted for electricity.
Four winged female figures encircle the central stem, each standing on a bronze sphere and holding a laurel wreath. These are typical allegorical Victories (La Victoire) — classical symbols of triumph and honour frequently used in French decorative arts of this era. The movement in the wings, the drapery and the elevated poses give the chandelier strong sculptural presence.
The lower frame features crisp bronze casting with scrollwork, rosettes and characteristic 19th-century detailing. The original frosted flame shades complete the silhouette and give the gasolier its atmospheric, authentic glow.
