An Italian mid-century folding games table of the well-known “envelope” design, with four triangular panels that fold inward to create a compact surface and open out to form a square playing table. The black lacquered top is raised on a sculptural chrome-plated steel base with a cruciform support, giving the piece a refined yet architectural presence.
The table corresponds exactly in form, construction, and proportions to the documented “Envelope” table design attributed to Gastone Rinaldi for Theme Italy, produced in Italy during the 1960s–1970s. The materials, folding mechanism, and base design are consistent with known original examples. While the original manufacturer’s label is no longer present, there is clear evidence of a removed sticker on the underside, a not uncommon occurrence with Italian furniture of this period.
For accuracy and transparency, the table is therefore described in the style of Gastone Rinaldi for Theme Italy, despite matching the original model in every material and structural detail.
A versatile and collectible piece that functions equally well as a games or card table when opened, and as a striking console or occasional table when closed.
